40% off the grippiest shoes I've ever tested—get a pair of New Balance shoes for $90
New Balance shoes for under $100? Don't mind if I do.
Designed for trail running, I've always used the New Balance Fresh Foam X Hierro v8 as an off-road walking shoe. They're the grippiest shoes I've ever tested for my best walking shoe guide.
The thing that really makes these New Balance shoes stand out for me is the Vibram outsole. Some of the other shoes I've tested, like the Merrell Moab Speed 2, also have outsoles made from the same material, but the way it's used on the Hierro v8 makes it better at gripping slippy surfaces.
Save more than $60 on the berry-toned licorice/gulf red colorway. You can also get 20% off the colorways gulf red/tea tree and grey matter/quarry blue shades if light and bright is more to your taste.
There's only one colorway left available in the men's shoe, but it's a nice, neutral green (olavine if you want to be fancy about it) that should go well with other trail-walking gear, which usually employs natural tones over the brights of fitness clothing.
One of the main benefits of the Hierro v8 when compared with other trail walking shoes is that they are quite lightweight. Generally. shoes designed for off-roading have a protective, stiff upper which adds weight and can slow you down a little. The Hierro v8 however, relies on the extension of the outsole material up the sides of the shoe and over the toe to protect you from stones, thorns and other common trail snags while maintaining a lightweight, flexible upper.
