My ab roller changed my life—if I was shopping for a new one this is the one I'd pick
My ab wheel has helped me build impressive core strength but it hurts my wrists—here's what I'd pick instead

My ab wheel took my core workouts to the next level and two years after I started using one, I still recommend them to anyone who will listen. However, if I were to shop for a new ab wheel knowing what I know now, I would make a different choice.
I use a cheap, chunky basic ab wheel that I found on Amazon, which is the closest in appearance to the VINSGUIR Ab Roller (which features at number two in our best ab wheel guide). It's an effective piece of kit, but when I first started I struggled to control my rollouts and found it put a lot of pressure on my wrists.
With this in mind, if I were shopping today I would choose this supportive DMoose ab wheel, which is currently 38% off in the Amazon Big Spring Sale.
As someone with weak wrists, it would have saved me a lot of problems when I first started using my ab wheel if I'd invested in something more supportive, like the DMoose. Instead of trying to patch the problem with wrist supports and weight-lifting gloves, I could have avoided it altogether with something that encouraged me to use better form.
My colleagues at our sister site Coach also tested the DMoose wheel and included it in their round-up.
It's a little pricier than other options on the market but is worth picking up at a discount, particularly if you have problems with your wrists or need extra support with maintaining correct form. The chunky wheel makes it easier to control than thinner options and the ergonomic handles take pressure off the wrists, allowing you to focus fully on your abs.
If the price of the DMoose left suffering with sticker shock, the good news is that more affordable ab rollers are also included in the sale.
My colleagues love the VINSGUIR roller, and I can see why: it's inexpensive but solidly built and has consistently positive reviews from Amazon customers. With an average rating of 4.6 out of 5 stars, this is a safe bet if you don't want to splurge on a more expensive roller, but still want something of good quality.
The Perfect Fitness Ab Carver is also featured in our ab roller guide as the best option for beginners. The wide wheel allows for more control when you roll the wheel out and the dipped handles for better grip and core engagement. It also has a carbon steel coil that adds assistance when you roll out and back, so you don't need to worry about going splat on your belly if you haven't figured out your technique just yet. The coil limits how far you can roll out, so if you're taller you might find it restrictive.
The discount on this ab wheel is less impressive than the others in the Amazon Spring Sale, but with a retail price under $20, this is the clear choice if you want to try an ab wheel but want to spend as little as possible. It's not assisted, but the medium-width wheel and long handles mean it should suit most. It's also lighter and more portable than other options, so is more suitable for putting in a gym bag.
